Rasta Phil was originally born in Trinidad as Philip Thomas. As a child, he attended the Seventh Day Adventist Church with his mother – Sarah Thomas. It was in his church where Phil’s musical talent all began. Phil spent most of his childhood in Trinidad as well as Boston. He grew up with many brothers and sisters. They include sisters Ionie, Evelyn, Janet, Leona, Carolyn, Denise and brothers Derrick and Thadeus.
Phil grew up listening to Bob Marley, Gregory Issac and also Love Vibe in Trini (A ghetto band in Trinidad). He started writing music with his brother Thadeus at a young age. The music they write is now referred to as World Beat Reggae. Phil has made appearances on the Arsenio Hall show as well as Mad Cobra in Hawaii. He also can be seen on Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch videos “The Wild Side”, “You Gotta Believe” and “Money”.
Mark Wahlberg and Rasta Phil toured exclusively with Marky Mark and The Funky Bunch on the “Music For The People” Tour. He released a single overseas known as “Children of The Revolution”, a remake of the T-Rex classic.
Rasta Phil has been rocking clubs all over Canada, including several major hotspots (The Bamboo, The Shock Nightclub, The Guvernment and Ichabods). In 2000, Rasta Phil was involved in a benefit concert for Venezuelan flood victims. Although Rasta Phil has been offered many record deals, he has waited until now to come out with his own thing and do his music the way he believes in doing it with the help of his family, his close friend Volda Alexander (Distinct Look Agency), his management team and his brother, Thadeus Thomas (TMT Productions) .
